The annual Academy Awards returned for its 94th ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles last night (Sunday 27th March 2022) as the famous Oscars were awarded to those within the world of film. The red carpet was rolled out once more for the ceremony and there's been many dazzling looks delivered in this award season already; but the Oscars simply added more glamour, with a few cool tailored ensembles worn by the ladies of the red carpet this year.
Wanda Sykes
Actress Wanda Sykes sported a rather crisp white suit that was paired with a white formal pleated dress shirt. The suit jacket was a one-button design with a smooth shawl lapel on the front, two flapped pockets, six buttons on the cuffs and structured shoulders for a sharp finish. The buttons on the shirt were of a silver/shiny finish, an element cleverly enhanced through the silver tuxedo stripe on the sides of her trousers. The shape of the trousers were of a subtle wide fit with a bit of a flare possibly included as the hem drapes for an elegant touch.
Stacey Morris
Also known as Stacey Kutz, hair stylist Stacey Morris was part of the styling team nominated for Best Make-up and Hairstyling for the film "Coming 2 America" and for the event, sported a dazzling embellished black suit with heavy embellishment. The placement of the embellishment were done well so not as to overload the tailoring, as the one half of the centre front was filled with silver jewels and draped down from the shoulder. The opposite shoulder had the same effect whilst the other half of the jacket was kept plain. It had a one-button front with thin double jet pockets and smooth shawl lapel on the front. Underneath was a double-breasted waistcoat with an eight-button front and straight hem that sat nicely over the waist of the tapered trousers. From the knee down to the hem, a thin jewelled stripe was also featured to continue this jazzy attire, the stylist finishing the look with a embellished black bow tie also.
Ariana DeBose
Actress Ariana DeBose was a winner on the night for her role in the film musical "West Side Story", taking home Best Supporting Actress as she wore a gorgeous red Valentino Haute Couture look. The bodice was sleeveless with the shoulder straps leading into a straight line on the back and a curved neckline on the front. The monochrome look was made even more captivating through the silk cape that draped around her arms and fell into a long train on the red carpet. Her trousers sat high on the waist and were as sharp as the look itself thanks to the straight lines and the centre crease on the trouser front. Side pockets were included and the hem just brushed the floor for a modern Hollywood glamour outfit.
Olivia Colman
Nominated for Best Actress for her performance in the film "The Lost Daughter", actress Olivia Colman glistened on the red carpet in a lovely silver pleated gown from Dior. The piece was quite ethereal but kept elegant through its simplicity as the fitted collar conveyed more fabric manipulation to enhance the shimmer. The bodice and skirt below the waist were pleated as the waist itself had a twisted silver belt across it. The pleats got noticeably wider closer to the hem which just brushed the floor, the same effect mirrored on the sleeves which also draped gently down to mid-calf length.
Diane Warren
Songwriter Diane Warren rocked the red carpet last night, wearing a shiny green suit with black detailing for her Best Original Song nomination for the track "Somehow You Do", as featured in the film "Four Good Days". The suit was a shade green, cut into a single-breasted jacket with the one-button front and flapped pockets with contrasting black jets. A welt pocket also featured on the chest behind the contrasting black peak lapels, whilst the inside was lined in black and with a copper gold edge around it. The sleeves were finished with four black buttons on the cuffs and the classic side stripe was also black for a sharp trouser detail. They were tapered to the hem with a sharp centre crease, sitting over the boots neatly.
Lupita Nyong'o
Actress Lupita Nyong'o wore a sparkly gold Prada gown for the 94th Academy Awards which included a crew neck and half-length sleeves. The neckline led down into a sharp V-shaped back that ended at the waist, as the evening gown then draped to the floor in a column-like silhouette. It was completely covered in gold sequins and featured gold tassels for extra movement whilst at the same time, enhancing the luxurious detailing of the jewels that were collated together on the bodice, falling down to just above the knee for an extra wow moment on the red carpet.
Jessica Chastain
Winner of Best Actress for her role in the film "The Eyes of Tammy Faye", actress Jessica Chastain attended the Oscars wearing a beautiful Gucci gown with a golden sequinned bodice. The entire dress was embellished in sequins as it transitioned softly from gold to purple from the waist down, whilst finishing with a purple ruffled hem, adding texture and variety to the piece. It featured a V-neck and subtle gold ruffles on the shoulder straps for a bit of height and to match the hem of the gown. The bodice was fitted to the waist and then flared out thanks to the natural drapes and folds in the skirt for extra glamour.
Cynthia Erivo
Actress and singer Cynthia Erivo arrived on the Oscars red carpet sporting a tailored Louis Vuitton ensemble with a sophisticated train leading from the back of her skirt. The silky and draped skirt was juxtaposed with her zip-fastened tailored jacket, designed with wide peak lapels and tailored to the waist. The zip itself was positioned level with the waist with a wide flapped pocket situated either side. Two silver buttons were also seen on the front, with the one appearing to hold down an extra fabric panel to lift the jacket even more. The sleeves were 3/4 length with matching buttons on the cuff, all falling from rounded shoulders and a great structured line across the top.
