London Fashion Week S/S22: The Fashion Roundup - A Hand Tailored Suit

London Fashion Week S/S22: The Fashion Roundup

It's that time of year again. Fashion Week has returned and the fast-paced fashion season continues to showcase new, innovative fashion designers alongside those very much established in the industry for many years. Between 17th September and 21st September 2021, it was the return of London Fashion Week, continuing the season after New York and closely followed by Milan and Paris Fashion Week. Over at least 100 designer names and brands were showcased in London either in person or virtually and of course, we at A Hand Tailored Suit have noticed some exquisite elements of tailoring, setting the scene for Spring/Summer 2022. Here are just a few pieces we couldn't take our eyes off:

Spring 2022 Ready-To-Wear

Full of romance, elegance and beauty, this collection certainly shone in the outdoor settings of a Georgian townhouse - and amongst the graceful movement of the fabrics were a few tailored elements too, including this piece. The model here wears a white blazer fastened like a double-breasted piece with silver detailing across the centre. Angled flapped pockets with buttons are the choice for this, with peak lapels and shorter jacket sleeves to allow the sheer glove detailing to really stand out.

Pink is a colour that always succeeds as a Spring/Summer choice, and just looks even better as a two-piece suit like this model above wears. Another double-breasted cut, patch pockets on the side for a relaxed touch but the peak lapels to continue the signature tailored features of a double-breasted suit. The sleeves 3/4 length allowing the knitted sleeves to show underneath, a real modern touch that can be great next season. Of course, tapered tailored trousers never fall out of style either, the turned up hem a smooth finishing touch.

New tailored set? Check.

A check jacket never goes amiss either and styled together like these models here just heightens the impact a classic check piece can have. The pink piece on the right is another double-breasted choice with the cropped sleeves but shorter notch lapels for a softer finish, whilst keeping a refined structure on the shoulder. Feminine yet powerful.

Spring 2022 Ready-To-Wear

A haunting but beautiful collection from ERDEM during London Fashion Week full of many maxi dresses and fitted blouses, combining structure and grace together well across a few tailored pieces spotted in the collection, the model above wearing such a piece. A dark navy bordering to a midnight blue shade, a lovely two-piece suit styled with wide peak lapels cut to emphasise the collar width further, its shimmery nature captured through the delicate embellishment is all this suit needs to be stand-out. Three flapped pockets are perfectly disguised within the piece for a smooth finish and a lovely curved edge for the hem.

There's something so grand about this trench coat, tailored in at the waist to allow the length of the piece to be extra dramatic as its modelled outside the British Museum. The classic elements of sleeve belts for a fuller look on the sleeves, the very wide collar draped over the shoulders and the wide curved notch lapels underneath to bring in the shape of the shoulders and down into the six-button front is quite something.

Sophistication and chic is what this tailored jacket is, and a fine example for a bridal suit in the Spring/Summer season. The one-button fastening makes it effortless, whilst the smooth edges of the peak lapels balanced with the padded shoulders and the angled centre front is a great detail. A slight flare to the bottom of the jacket provides the soft subtle shape to this elegant piece.

Runway

Tailoring, suits, jackets, trousers galore, it was a collection full of stylish pieces that will make the wearer feel dapper and full of confidence next season, from three-piece check suits in an autumnal colour palette to a bright orange number in its military style with oversized shoulders for power.

Monochrome styling was a big trend for Spring/Summer this year, but when does a monochromatic suit ever go out of style? It's a classic choice, a sophisticated choice and one that will certainly deliver such an impact as the confidence is exhumed, certainly with these shoulder lines and sharp angles on the items, especially this green waistcoat seen above. On the red number at the end, the tie belt contrasted with the patch button flapped pockets underneath and on the sleeves whilst combined with shoulder epaulettes certainly suggests this look means business.

Colour blocking was very much a theme within this runway but made to be so effortless in its finish. Combining the styles of business wear with formal/evening wear is very modern indeed, not taking much attention away from the traditional tailored details of the flapped pockets and metallic buttons for that rich finish. And of course, let's not forget about a matching smart tailored suit for the little ones.

Salon Showcase

A statement salon showcase is what this was, full of strong colour blocking in its garments including sleek coats and suiting ensembles, just like this statement red. The coat is fastened up with just one button, disguised by the folds of the peak lapels that on their own, are modern with their cut.

Going more modern with this collection, this model wears a very defined piece of a black-and-white two-piece ensemble. The jacket front is black, falling round to the backs of the jacket sleeves and the tops of the shoulders for an outlined effect. The white panelling on the outer sleeve gives it that edge and this is mirrored on the tailored white trousers, the black panelling being the strong outline. The peak lapels curve but are folded smoothly through the hidden fastening on the jacket front once more.

The placement of details on a suit is always key, and this model's attire shows how, as he walks down the runway, the white detailing on the trousers is exposed. It continues to give this piece a edge, whilst the peak lapels and structured shoulder line hint at that modern, urban touch to tailoring.

Spring/Summer 2022 Ready-To-Wear

A collection depicting how you can play it classic with your tailored wardrobe pieces whilst also showing how vibrancy can be incorporated to make such a bold statement. Such lively colours and perfect for the Spring/Summer season, some with beautiful artistic prints on such as this sky blue two-piece with notch lapels and flapped pockets on the jacket. Others showcase geometric prints such as the purple two-piece with a cropped jacket to the waist and oversized shoulders, the various shades of purple giving extra depth to the look.

The classic pinstripe: definitive, stylish and very classy indeed as this model shows in the collection. The double-breasted style with a six-button front is great, the perfect partnering on the peak lapels with the padded shoulders and double jet pockets great details. The slightly relaxed silhouette on the trousers conveys a more casual vibe, styled with a white band collar shirt with fancy gold buttons for that dashing touch.

A lightweight coat for those unexpected showers like this is great, particularly with its muted tea green base and contrasting dark forest green lapels, collar and interior. The oversized lapel and collar are curved and rounded for a softer finish, one side of the fastening sticking out to a sharp point for that modern edge. The colour combination continues onto the trousers, and the shirt paired with it a soft polo style with toned-down buttons.

London Fashion Week certainly has lived up to its expectations and has one more, delivered fine examples of fashion and tailoring styles for next season. Certainly excited to see what Paris and Milan have in store!
