The Olivier Awards 2022: The Stylish Gentlemen - A Hand Tailored Suit

The Olivier Awards 2022: The Stylish Gentlemen

At the Royal Albert Hall yesterday evening (Sunday 10th April 2022), the famous Olivier Awards - also known as the Laurence Olivier Awards - took place. Hosted by Jason Manford, the awards celebrate those in the world of theatre as they honour the best musicals, actresses and actors and other categories. As the stars began to arrive on the sustainable green carpet, we couldn't help but notice some stylish suits from the gentlemen who attended, and here are some of our favourite looks.

Eddie Redmayne

Actor Eddie Redmayne donned a navy blue blazer with a pair of crisp white trousers for a statement look at the awards, winning the award for Best Actor in a Musical for his role in "Cabaret". Redmayne accessorised with a matching navy blue bow tie and his welt pocket styled with a folded white pocket square to match his white formal shirt. There is a faded diamond check repeated pattern within the jacket design, whilst the shawl collar is kept plain for a smooth finish. Two thin welt pockets are featured either side whilst the centre front curves into a rounded hem, juxtaposing the sharp centre creases on his trousers. The hem of these fall to the ankle with a subtle break, ensuring not to cover his blue loafers.

Actor Kit Harington kept it traditional yet modern wearing a black velvet dinner jacket ensemble, styled with a pair of matte black trousers and white shirt. The jacket itself is fastened with just the one button, whilst the same style buttons are included in a three-button arrangement. The shawl collar is cut in the same cloth of the trousers which allows the jacket to be more a statement. Thin jet pockets sit near the bottom of the garment with the shoulders slightly rounded for extra height. The shirt is finished with a covered button placket with a modern cut classic collar.

Actor and musician Giles Terara's suit of choice was a two-piece plaid check style, worn with a white shirt open collar and fastened with gold buttons. The jacket was a one-button style, also in gold, with a rounded hem and wide notch lapels for that cool, casual vibe. The thin pockets are disguised well within the plaid design, the bright shades of the blues, mint green, yellow and red really making the ensemble pop. The trousers are a straight-leg cut and finished to a cropped hem style, enhancing the casual style as the front of them are complete with a sharp centre crease.

Arinze Kene

Actor and playwright Arinze Kene was also in attendance at the Olivier Awards last night as he was nominated for Best Actor in a Musical for his role in "Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical." Kene wore a dark navy blue velvet jacket with lighter blue piping above the jacket cuffs and around the pockets. The lighter blue enhances the same hue that is portrayed when the light hits the navy velvet at a certain angle, but also make for eye-catching details. The one-button, shawl lapel design is paired with a plain white dress shirt with a classic collar and double cuffs, the cuffs fully on show thanks to the shortened jacket sleeves. The cufflinks and bow tie are the perfect finishing touches, whilst the trousers are a straight-leg cut with a sharp centre crease and hems in line with the ankle.

Laurie Kynaston

Arriving to Sunday's Olivier Awards at the Royal Albert Hall was actor Laurie Kynaston, who opted for a black two-piece suit with a lemon yellow windowpane check design. The yellow shirt underneath was a great match to enhance the colour in this look further, accessorising with a black satin ribbon tie in the centre of the collar. The jacket itself is constructed with notch lapels, a two-button front and a welt pocket disguised well in the jacket. With side pockets on the trousers, these are styled with a wide black belt around the waistband as the hems are turned up and cropped for an extra casual, relaxed feel to the suit.

Omari Douglas

He took the classic evening suit to another level with his attire at the awards as actor Omari Douglas wore a two-piece suit fully covered in decorative lace. Nominated for Best Actor for his performance in "Constellations", the front and back panels of the jacket were layered with the lace on top, with all details including the flapped pockets and peak lapels entirely covered in the lace. The shoulders of the jacket are rounded to give a bit of structure, before the sleeves, which are made of lace only, fall gracefully down to expose the shirt cuffs. The white formal shirt is finished with a semi-cutaway collar that is accessorised with a black ribbon bow tie, whilst the trousers are tailored to the knee before flaring out down to the hem.

Ben Norris

Poet and actor Ben Norris (left) was seen pictured arriving to the event sporting a dark check two-piece suit, styled with a black dress shirt and with a black and white printed coat over the top. The colour scheme of the check suit was quite autumnal with the burgundy's and yellow's contrasting each other, the yellow cleverly strengthened through the gold collar pin chain he wears as his neck piece. The black shirt cuffs show through the jacket sleeves by a substantial amount, whilst he styles another chain from the one button to underneath the flapped pocket. The jacket is lined in a white satin, which is a nice link to his coat that's made with a subtle shawl collar and finished at the knee.

Eric Underwood

Ballet dancer and actor Eric Underwood kept it sharp and classic with his attire on the green carpet, sporting a black double-breasted tuxedo with a covered button placket white shirt and small bow tie. The jacket is a six-button front with sharp peak lapels well executed to balance out the tailored shoulders. The pocket flaps are wide with the jets contrasted in the same satin fabric as the buttons and lapels. The trousers are cut with side pockets of which he demonstrates, whilst the front are finished with a noticeable centre crease and the hem finishing just above the shoe. The welt pocket is styled with a black and white pocket square, the white border linking nicely to the dress shirt.
