The Olivier Awards 2022: The Stylish Ladies - A Hand Tailored Suit

The Olivier Awards 2022: The Stylish Ladies

At the Royal Albert Hall yesterday evening (Sunday 10th April 2022), the famous Olivier Awards - also known as the Laurence Olivier Awards - took place. Hosted by Jason Manford, the awards celebrate those in the world of theatre as they honour the best musicals, actresses and actors and other categories. As the stars began to arrive on the sustainable green carpet, we couldn't help but notice some stylish attire from the ladies who attended, and here are some of our favourite looks.

Victoria Hamilton-Barritt

Actress Victoria Hamilton-Barritt was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Musical for her performance in "Cinderella" and, for the awards, styled a bright blue and black printed two-piece suit. The jacket is designed with rounded peak lapels, designed with a significant gap between the lapels and collar. With a one-button front, the pockets on the side slightly break up the artistic print with the notched hem of the jacket very tall to elongate the silhouette. Her trousers are a straight-leg cut with small splits at the hem for a subtle flared look, whilst the shoulders are slightly padded for a softer shape across the top.

Film and stage actress Tamara Tunie arrived to the awards wearing a golden number, consisting of a two-piece gold suit in a double-breasted cut. The jacket was finished with contrasting black peak lapels and a four-button front also covered in black fabric. The thin double jet pockets were the same in contrast to enhance the glamour of the gold, as her jacket cuffs were styled with the four-button arrangement, leading down from the soft padded shoulders. To mirror the sharp straight jacket hem, the trousers are tapered at the ankles with a centre crease falling down the centre before finished off with the classic black tuxedo stripe on the sides.

Angellica Bell

TV and radio presenter Angellica Bell stunned in a red floor-length evening gown at the Olivier awards, wearing a sleeveless straight neckline design. Across the top of the gown is a pleated section fitted round the top before leading up into a wider layered section, almost replicating a bow. The dress is fitted down into a fishtail hem which drapes across the floor in a minimal way for a soft touch of elegance.

Hannah Waddingham

Actress Hannah Waddingham dazzled in a shimmery evening gown with champagne gold fabric draping down in the cape sleeves of the attire. Designed with a crew neck, the front of the dress features a small cut-out section to match the plain parts of the heavily decorated sleeves as they drape down from the shoulders. The shape of the evening dress is fitted at the bodice before falling down into a straight skirt, a silhouette that is enhanced and elongated through the floor-length embellished draping off the shoulders.

Felicity Kendal

Television and theatre actress Felicity Kendal kept it rather sophisticated and classic as she wore a bedazzled blazer over a matte finished pair of trousers and satin/silk top. The jacket appears to have the sequins or gems arranged in the traditional herringbone weave design, made with a one-button front and a contrasting black velvet shawl collar to soften the shine of the overall piece. The shoulders are padded and rounded off for a soft curved effect. Her black silky top is tucked into her matte black evening trousers, styled with a gathered waistband and bow tie with a subtle sheen to it. The trousers themselves fall to almost cover the shoe and have a flat front, making the jacket the statement piece.

Noma Dumezweni

Actress Noma Dumezweni's outfit of the night was one that showcased how the shape and cut of an attire can speak volumes. Paired with a fitted max-length pencil skirt, the accompanying black top with long-sleeved and designed with a subtle peplum hem for extra shape. Sections of the top itself were finished with black lace that were certainly enhanced through the voluminous sleeves (possibly raglan style) that fall into a fitted cuff. The attire was predominantly of a matte finish; however, the lace really captured a subtle hint of elegance for the event.

Stephanie McKeon

Theatre actress Stephanie McKeon sported a dazzling cerise gown on the sustainable green carpet last night for the Olivier Awards, floor-length and designed with a thigh-high split on the one side. Nominated for Best Actress in a Musical for her role in "Frozen", McKeon's dress neckline was an off-shoulder style and different one both sides: one side had the fabric gathered to the centre point, whilst the other was finished with braided fabric to differentiate the textures involved. The bodice was ruched and gathered to the centre point as from the waist down, the fabric simply draped thanks to the minimal pleating at the waistline.

Miriam-Teak Lee

Actress Miriam-Teak Lee wore a stunning floor-length emerald green gown to the Olivier Awards last night, designed with a sweetheart neckline and spaghetti straps leading round to the low back. The emerald green silk/satin is layered with lace embellishment over the top and tulle, balancing out the finishes of the fabrics and creating a textured piece. A thigh-high split is featured on the one side, allowing for the drape and natural folds of the fabric train to bring more of a statement to the ensemble, whilst also allowing the natural sheen of the green fabric underneath to capture the spotlight. An extra cut-out section on the back is seen below the ribbon tie fastening, allowing the drape of the dress to really be shown.
