British Soap Awards 2022: The Stylish Gentlemen - A Hand Tailored Suit

British Soap Awards 2022: The Stylish Gentlemen

Saturday 11th June 2022 marked the return of the British Soap Awards to our TV screens, where some of the most recognisable faces in the industry attended at the Hackney Empire, London. Best Storyline, Scene of the Year, Best Newcomer and of course, Best British Soap are just a few of the awards handed out on the night; but before that, the red carpet is rolled out first and on the night, we spotted some cool attires. Here are some of our favourites from the gents who attended.

Nominated for Best Dramatic Performance for his role in "Doctors", actor Dex Lee brought the dapper style to the event as he sported a dark brown three-piece suit with lighter brown details through the lapels and buttons. The jacket was softly tailored across the shoulders, the sleeves leading down into gauntlet cuffs with four buttons either side. The shawl lapel curves down into the centre one-button fastening, as the actor leave the jacket open to display the four-button waistcoat. The double jet pockets on both garments were also contrasting, the waistcoat ones accessorised with a dapper chain and a wide brown bow tie under the shirt collar. The trousers are slim and finish just above the shoe, whilst the white shirt is double-cuffed and complete with a covered button placket.

Actor David Tag looked the part for the evening in a printed black jacket with a possible dark green undertone to it, completed with satin double jet pockets below the waist and a matching patterned welt pocket on the chest. Fastened with the one button, a matte single-breasted waistcoat was worn underneath, sitting high on the chest over the white buttoned shirt. The trousers with a subtle centre crease were also a matte finish, allowing the jacket to be very much a statement piece of the look. If the jacket wasn't already a statement piece, the accessorising of the dark green patterned evening scarf, the red/blue polka dot pocket square and the thin bow tie certainly made it.

Keeping it cool in a brown double-breasted suit was actor Bobby Gordon, who paired the tailored piece with a grey pocket square in the welt pocket and an ivory roll neck knit underneath. The jacket was long in the body, decorated with six brown horn buttons on the front and smaller versions on the cuffs, arranged in a four-button style. The peak lapels are sharp to create a balanced line across the shoulders, whilst demonstrating the pockets can be styled either as double jets or with the pocket flaps showing. Inside is a white satin lining to link nicely to the jumper, whilst the trousers are designed with front side pockets and a centre crease leading down to the hem sitting just on top of the shoes.

Kieron Richardson

Actor Kieron Richardson was nominated for Best On-Screen Partnership in "Hollyoaks" and for the awards, donned a deep red velvet double-breasted blazer with a pair of black evening trousers and a small collar white shirt. The luxury associated with a velvet jacket is enhanced here through the gold-finish buttons on the front and four smaller versions on the cuffs too, details that really shine under the spotlight. The flapped pockets are positioned near the bottom whilst the chest welt pocket is styled with a charcoal grey satin pocket square. A thin red satin edge appears to show on the peak lapels for a smoother finish before the look is completed with a narrow black tie and tie slide.

Jurell Carter

Wearing a smart black three-piece to the 2022 British Soap Awards was actor Jurell Carter, who accessorised with a fitting narrow red bow tie for a pop of colour to the evening attire. The jacket was designed with satin-finished peak lapels and buttons on the front and cuffs, as the double jet pockets on the front were the same finish too. The single-breasted waistcoat was mid-height on the chest with a five-button front, thin pockets positioned either side and a wide notched hem at the bottom. The white shirt includes a short collar and covered button placket for a smooth appearance, the cuffs slightly on show to mirror the white piping detail that outlines the jacket's red lining. The trousers are a tapered cut with a subtle centre crease on the front to complete the look.

Emile John

Keeping it smart yet relaxed for the event was actor Emile John, who sported a double-breasted two-piece suit constructed from a micro blue and orange check on a grey background. The jacket is a four-button style with wide peak lapels that curve down smoothly to the black button fastening. The one lapel is finished with a brown angled embroidered buttonhole for extra decoration to this effortless ensemble. The thin jet pockets are well disguised in the jacket to keep up this appearance, whilst the straight jacket hem sits over his slim trousers with a subtle centre crease. The shirt is a crisp white design, again with a covered button placket and a silver collar pin sitting through the collar.

Scott Maslen

Actor Scott Maslen was definitely a smart/casual combination for the awards, pairing a navy crew neck shirt with a olive double-breasted jacket and slightly lighter olive chinos. The six navy buttons on the front are picked out through the choice of the navy shirt well, with four smaller buttons arranged in the "kissing" cuff style. Peak lapels and an angled welt pocket are included on the jacket front, along with two large curved patch pockets situated at the bottom. Extra stitching around the lapel edges and pockets give more dimension to the jacket and a little bit of texture too, accessorising with a lapel pin through the buttonhole. The chinos are rolled up at the hem for that casual feel and to ensure a clean look for the brown suede shoes.

Tomi Ade

For the Soap Awards 2022, Tomi Ade sported a dashing black brocade double-breasted jacket with contrasting satin detailing, perfectly enhanced through the partnering of the deep red pocket square in the welt pocket. Four satin fabric covered buttons featured on the front, along with smaller versions on the cuffs. The jet pockets were also cut in the same fabric to be distinguished against the velvet brocade, with the shawl collar creating a smooth line around the top of the jacket. The black shirt underneath is worn open collar with chunky silver accessorising around the neck, seeming to pick out the embroidery on the double cuffs. The trousers were a slim and straight cut, tapered at the ankle with a subtle centre crease for a refined finish.
