2022 BAFTA TV Awards: The Stylish Ladies - A Hand Tailored Suit

2022 BAFTA TV Awards: The Stylish Ladies

The 2022 Virgin British Academy Television Awards continued the very busy award season last night (Sunday 8th May 2022) as many stars and nominees attended the event at Royal Festival Hall in London. As Richard Ayoade hosted the ceremony, the famous BAFTA awards were handed out in categories such as Leading Actress, Entertainment and Must-see Moment. Before that, the red carpet was rolled out and we at A Hand Tailored Suit have selected some of our favourite looks from the ladies who were there.

Wearing a Zuhair Murad light pink gown to the BAFTA TV Awards last night, actress Michelle Keegan stunned in a pleated gown which had a natural shimmer and shine to the cloth. The style was quite ethereal with the off-shoulder design. tied just off-centre to drape down and showcase the pleating in different directions. With a horizontal pleated waist, the skirt had vertical pleats with a thigh-high split and displayed great movement. From the back of the shoulder was a separate piece of pleated cloth which draped to the floor and created a small train, completing this elegant look.

Actress Jodie Comer was one of the winning recipients at the BAFTAs, taking home the award for Leading Actress for her performance in the show, "Help". Her outfit of the event was an elegant black tuxedo BOSS dress with a tall centre notch at the bottom of the gown. The bodice of the dress included wide peak lapels that were short yet distinctive in cut, contrasting in a satin cloth that would also pair well with the large three-button front and pockets either side below her waist. The shoulders hint at a subtle bit of structure or padding to maintain this sleeveless, tailored look on the red carpet.

Actress Aiysha Hart took to the red carpet wearing a signature Chanel tweed two-piece suit with a matching cropped top underneath. The jacket was short in length on the front as it was styled draped over her shoulders, the cloth embedded with sequins and gems to glisten in the spotlight. The front edge of the jacket was embellished also, along with the pocket jets that featured and on the front trouser patch pockets too. The trousers were high-waisted and the length finishing at the floor, creating this subtle flare to the shape and an elongated silhouette within the overall ensemble.

Actress Jo Hartley was part of the cast of the show, "In My Skin", which won a BAFTA for Drama Series last night and, on the night, she wore a sharp deep red two-piece tailored outfit. Paired with a light blue shirt and black ribbon tie, the velvet suit is a double-breasted cut with six brown horn buttons on the front of the jacket. The structure of the shoulders are well tailored and strong to mirror the statement wide peak lapels which feature. Large patch pockets are situated at the bottom of the garment with a welt pocket on the chest, whilst the trousers are cut in a straight-leg style, the hem just brushing the floor and the hint of a centre crease just about noticeable.

Jasmine Jobson

Actress Jasmine Jobson shone on the red carpet wearing a silver pleated gown with a strong metallic finish on the cloth. It was a strong, ethereal look thanks to the pleated included throughout, the waistband showcasing horizontal pleats and the neckline designed in a low V-neck style. Two thigh-high splits were incorporated at the bottom of the gown which draped minimally along the floor, the reflection of the red carpet captured in the cloth to give this illusion of subtle red tones in the dress itself.

Zeze Millz

TV presenter Zeze Millz's attire of choice was a crisp white one-shoulder jumpsuit from Safiyaa, minimal in appearance but sophisticated and chic in style. The one shoulder included a padded cap sleeve with an asymmetric hem leading up to the neckline, this itself falling down below the arm and around to the back. The waistband was slightly raised to create texture and shape to the attire before leading down into an asymmetric drape on one side. This would leave the one trouser leg on show, conveying the flared hem that stems from the tapered knee. The extra fabric drape falls elegantly to the floor, just long enough to create a minimal train.

Sheila Atim

Actress and singer Sheila Atim was amongst the cast of the drama miniseries, "The Underground Railroad" which on the night, was awarded a BAFTA in the International category. For the event, she wore a cape-style black gown with a low V-neckline which squared off at the bottom. On either side of the neckline were vertical lines of smocking which created a subtle structural element of texture to contrast the soft drape of the chiffon gown. The smocking would fall into pleats from the waist down to the floor, slightly widening in shape to create more texture. The cape would be tailored to the shoulders and portray this definitive silhouette to her award attire, the soft movements of the cloth creating this graceful red carpet look.

Nicola Coughlan

One of the celebrities to present an award at the BAFTAs was actress Nicola Coughlan who for the event itself, wore an eye-catching pink Valentino ball gown. The hem of the gown was finished with tall ruffles to give an outline to this monochromatic look, as well as mirroring the ruffled bows that featured across the top of the gown. Big bows draped along the straps - one strap worn on the shoulder and the other in the off-shoulder style - whilst the fitted bodice stopped at the waist before flaring out into this distinctive ball gown skirt, gathered at the top to create such shape.
