Regina King
Actress and director of 'One Night in Miami' Regina King opened the ceremony in a stunning ice blue Louis Vuitton duchess satin gown, completed with silver embroidered crystals and sequins for a very sparkly look. The fitted bodice with a plunge neckline really allowed the shoulders to be the statement detail of the dress, as the soft material holds a great structured shape but almost looking like delicate bird wings. The placement of the embroidery enhances the scalloped edge on the shoulders and hem too, breaking the gown up into vertical panels to elongate King's silhouette - a beautiful and meticulous design that suited Regina King amazingly.
Carey Mulligan
Nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in the film 'Promising Young Woman', actress Carey Mulligan attended the ceremony in L.A wearing a copper/golden Valentino Haute Couture gown full of shape and glamour. The gown itself is made of organdy and embroidered with many pearl sequins to glisten like the Oscar award itself. The dress itself is combined of a crop top and high-waist skirt with the fabric gathered to create large drapes finished with a scalloped hem. The combination of a fitted bodice and voluminous skirt works wonders as a captivating red carpet dress for the ceremony, one which suited Carey Mulligan wonderfully.
Isla Fisher
Virtually attending from Sydney, actress Isla Fisher looked very chic in a classic black Dior wool and silk gown designed with pockets on the skirt. The bodice is fitted on the waist, allowing the skirt to create natural drapes. The wide V-neckline leads into thin straps on the dress which is fastened with a side zip. The simplicity of the dress is accessorised with matching silver earrings and necklace, portraying a classical red carpet garment which Isla Fisher looked divine in for this year's awards.
Janice Duncan
Director Janice Duncan was nominated alongside filmmaker Sophia Nahli Allison for Best Documentary (Short Subject) with their film 'A Love Song For Latasha' and on the red carpet, wore a modern Valentino tailored ensemble. The director wore a black cut-out top underneath a double-breasted blazer. The four-button design included slits in the sleeves which are refined for that tailored finish, along with the classic features of flapped pockets and peak lapels. With soft padded shoulders and sharp creases on the front of the cropped trousers, Duncan accessorised with silver jewellery to top off the modern and fantastic tailored look.
Amanda Seyfried
Actress Amanda Seyfried attended the red carpet in Los Angeles in a striking strapless red Giorgio Armani Privé ballgown as she was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance in 'Mank'. The tulle ensemble was made with a deep V-neckline outlining the extra tulle ruffles on the edge, continuing round to the back. The natural pleating property of the tulle is portrayed through the combined layers to create extra fullness in the skirt from the tailored bodice. The garment brought a bit of vintage style as Seyfried's red carpet moment certainly delivered through the vibrancy of the red gown.
Zendaya
Also in attendance at the L.A venue of this year's Academy Awards was actress Zendaya and on the red carpet, wore a bright yellow Valentino Haute Couture dress. Made from chiffon, the dress was captivating in its movements as Zendaya walked, with the breeze blowing against the chiffon to create gorgeous waves and highlight the natural drape of the fabric. The garment itself was created with a subtle sweetheart neckline and a cut-out section on the front. The chiffon is twisted on the top and at the bottom of the cut-out section to create extra pleating details, all which come together to create a stunning summery piece for Zendaya.
Emerald Fennell
Actress, director and writer Emerald Fennell was up for a few awards this year with her film 'Promising Young Woman', including the nomination for Best Picture; but she was a winner as she was awarded Best Original Screenplay. Wearing a floral Gucci dress for the ceremony, she glowed in the organdy green, lilac and pink outfit designed with a scoop neckline and ruffles. As the ruffles are placed to define the neckline, so too are they placed across the chest, sleeves and down the side of the garment. Sequins are embroidered across the gown to highlight the delicate nature of the fabric and floral theme of this dress. The fall and drape of the organdy simply makes this dress a dreamy piece that suited winner Emerald Fennell splendidly.
Chloé Zhao
Filmmaker and director Chloé Zhao made history at this year's Academy Awards as she became the first woman of colour to win Best Director and only the second female recipient too with her film 'Nomadland', which also won Best Picture. Her Hermès beige dress for the ceremony was subtle and modest whilst conveying the variety of textures involved: pin tucks, pleating on the sleeves, smocking on the top and gathering on the waist. Small silver beads are used as a finishing touch where the fabric has been manipulated to enhance the pristine style of the dress. Wearing crisp white trainers with the ankle-length dress, it is a gown that can be styled up or down as winning director Chloé Zhao brilliantly conveys on the red carpet.
Laura Dern
Actress Laura Dern was one of the award presenters at this year's ceremony and for it, dazzled in an Oscar de la Renta feathered gown. Formed of a black velvet fitted gown with long sleeves, the statement of the piece was the skirt itself, compiled of many large white feathers to create added movement, texture and shape. Darts are visible on the front of the bodice which helps in fitting the gown perfectly to Laura Dern which, paired with long earrings and bracelet, was very much a statement look of the event.
Tiara Thomas
Singer/songwriter Tiara Thomas was a winner on the night as she was awarded Best Music (Original Song) for the piece 'Fight For You' as featured in the film 'Judas and the Black Messiah'. For the ceremony and on the red carpet, she wore an all-white jumpsuit with matching blazer from designer Jovana Louis. The jumpsuit itself falls to the floor in a flare leg with sheer panelling just visible underneath the plunge V-neck collar. The oversized jacket is draped over the shoulders as it features wide sharp peak lapels, flapped pockets and white feathers on the bottom of the piece and sleeves also. Paired with the silver necklace, it is a very modern and chic tailored ensemble with a touch of elegance added in for what was a winning night for Tiara Thomas.
