Martin Desmon Roe & Travon Free
Directors Martin Desmond Roe and Travon Free were winners at this year's Oscars as they picked up the award for Best Short Film (Live Action) with their film 'Two Distant Strangers'; but it was also their Dolce & Gabbana tuxedos which made a statement. Both wore three-piece suits with contrasting yellow gold details through the peak lapels, bow ties and pockets on the jacket, whilst Martin Desmond Roe opted for gold jacquard trousers and three pockets in comparison to just two on Travon Free's jacket. As the gold was fitting for the Oscars, it was their jacket's linings which made the true statement: printed inside were the names from within the black community who were victims to police in the last year, a very moving detail. The two also wore brooches in numbers '24' and '2' as tribute to basketball star Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna.
Leslie Odom Jr.
Nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the awards for his role in 'One Night In Miami', actor Leslie Odom Jr. continued to deliver with his iconic award season tailored looks sporting a golden tuxedo from Brioni. The double-breasted attire woven with gold silk and gold thread delivers in power as the herringbone texture of the suit is really enhanced. The jacket itself is designed with rounded peak lapels, a 6-button front, 4-button cuffs, thin double jet pockets and a double vent. The tapered trousers with their sharp centre crease purely finishes off this rich number, and with a gold pocket square and shirt to match, it's certainly a golden moment for the actor.
Actor and director Tyler Perry was awarded the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, where recipients are honoured for their contributions to humanitarian causes. Attending the ceremony, Perry wore a Giorgio Armani dinner suit, that consisted of black evening trousers, a dark green satin shirt with matching bow tie and a velvet emerald green dinner jacket. The jacket was a 2-button design with a shawl collar, thin double jet pockets and 4-button cuffs. The shirt buttons are covered for a smoother finish whilst the trousers feature the classic satin stripe down the sides as the hem is tucked into shoes to complete Tyler Perry's sophisticated award attire.
Nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in 'Sound of Metal', actor Paul Raci rocked a black double-breasted Dolce & Gabbana pinstripe suit with an embellished crystal collar on the jacket. Wearing a black shirt with a bejewelled collar pin, the jacket's wide peak lapels and buttons on the front and sleeves were made in a contrasting satin for extra stand-out detail. The slanted flapped pockets also have this contrast detail whilst the trousers are defined with sharp creases and smart shiny black shoes. The actor also wears a silver lapel pin which allows further attention to be made to the crystal collar, creating a very sartorial, modern tailored ensemble which Paul Raci looks effortlessly cool in.
Director and writer Kemp Powers turned up on the red carpet at the L.A. venue wearing a very sophisticated double-breasted ivory dinner jacket as he was a nominee at this year's Oscars for Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay) whilst the animated film 'Soul' won Best Animated Feature Film of which he co-directed. Wearing a white dinner shirt and small black bow tie, the jacket itself featured a wide shawl collar and a 6-silver button fastening on the front with thin double jet pockets and a slanted breast pocket. The traditional black evening trousers transformed his attire as the contrast ivory satin stripe down the sides really makes this look cohesive. With matching silver buttons on the cuffs too, Temp Powers really looked sharp on the red carpet.
Actor and producer Peter Spears was a winner with the award for Best Picture as one of the producers on the film 'Nomadland' as he looked very smart in a neutral tuxedo, consisting of brown trousers paired with a beige jacket and white shirt. The suit conveys a sense of calm with its colour palette, as the jacket itself is a double-breasted design with a 4-button front and wide shawl collar with a buttonhole. The classic features of thin pockets and a welt pocket at the top with a folded pocket square tucked neatly inside. A brown bow tie and matching brown dress shoes refined Spears' calming and softly tailored suit nicely.
Sacha Baron Cohen
Nominated for Best Supporting Actor in the film 'The Trial of the Chicago 7', actor Sacha Baron Cohen opted for a Ralph Lauren mocha single-breasted dinner jacket, worn with a pleated white dinner shirt with a brown satin bow tie and ivory dinner trousers. The jacket is created with peak lapels, 4-button cuffs on the sleeves, thin jet pockets and just the single button for the fastening. The trousers with front-facing pockets are pleated which lead into a lovely centre crease, tailored to finish at the ankle. The white pocket square in the top jacket pocket completes the actor's attire splendidly as he attended a designated venue for the event in Sydney.
Actor Gary Oldman was in attendance for this year's Oscars at the London venue as he was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in 'Mank'. On the red carpet in London, he looked traditionally dapper wearing a two-piece single-breasted suit paired with a cornflower blue dinner shirt. The jacket is created with a single fastening and two flapped pockets with an accompanying blue patterned pocket square in his breast pocket. The centre creases are sharp to contrast the smooth shawl collar on the jacket as the actor poses casually with his hands in the trouser pockets. The shirt has a vintage style about it with a ruffled centre for the fastening as it is enhanced through the classic black tie - a very smart look worn well by Gary Oldman.
Actor Colman Domingo served on the red carpet in L.A. as he sported a bright fuchsia three-piece suit from Atelier Versace, finishing the look with polished black dress shoes. The jacket is designed with peak lapels, a single button fastening, thin double jet pockets and 4-button cuffs using bright gold buttons, same as on the jacket front and waistcoat. The shirt itself is in the same pink shade with an embroidered button placket down the centre, making it the centre of attention thanks to its clever placement, not forgetting the small gold button as the collar fastening. The Swarovski sequins and crystals used on the shirt are the same which are placed so delicately from the shoulders down in a waterfall effect on the jacket, making it a truly dazzling ensemble for Colman Domingo.
Actor LaKeith Stanfield attended the screening of the event at its London venue as he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in 'Judas and the Black Messiah', and he looked ever so retro in a 70's style Saint Laurent tailored jumpsuit. The jumpsuit features a V-neck which defines the tailored white wide collar shirt even more, adding to the very cool attire. The bottom features centre creases which add more shape to the flares with a turn-up hem, as the patch pockets at the type similar to a safari jacket style are made chic with the addition of the black belt. It's a fun and fashionable take for the evening/red carpet dress code, and LaKeith Stanfield knows how to make it work.
