The BRIT Awards 2021: Ladies of the Red Carpet - A Hand Tailored Suit

The BRIT Awards 2021: Ladies of the Red Carpet

The BRIT Awards is the time of the award season where British and international music artists are celebrated with awards for any singles or albums they have released during the last year. They are the British Phonographic Industry's most popular music awards, hosted annually in February each year; but as most award ceremonies this year, it was pushed back to a later date. Tuesday 11th May 2021 saw The BRITs commence at the O2 Arena in London, and was host to 4000 key workers who had tickets to attend, a wonderful gesture and considered to be the first live musical show in the U.K. since the pandemic hit. The winners also received two awards: one BRIT for themselves and a smaller silver model which they could award to someone they felt deserved it, as designed by artists Es Devlin and Yinka Ilori.

It was great to see an element of normality once again and of course, with any award season, the red carpet was rolled out for some of the most famous musicians who were able to attend: and at A Hand Tailored Suit, we've selected some of our favourite looks from the ladies of the red carpet.

RAYE

British singer/songwriter RAYE was up for British Single with Mastercard with her track 'Secrets' as sung with DJ Regard and on the night, she wore a custom Etro pink thigh-high split gown which was a real tribute to the iconic pink gown Marilyn Monroe wore in 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes'. Embellished with many silver diamonds on the off-shoulder neckline and her shoes, RAYE's accessorised with the statement satin pink gloves and various silver accessories including rings and a silver choker necklace. The bodice was fitted in a corset style as the skirt draped elegantly to the floor to create such an amazing look on the night: RAYE simply looked like a diamond.

American sisters and pop rock band HAIM were winners at this year's BRITs, taking home the award for International Group. Attending the ceremony in London, the sisters were pieces from clothing range The Row, a fashion label established by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. The fits of the outfits were relaxed and oversized as the sisters' styling was unified in portraying a very relaxed approach on the red carpet. Este Haim wore a long black jumpsuit with a low V-neck, notch lapels a thin black belt round her waist. Danielle Haim wore low-rise stone-coloured trousers with pleats at the top to create the extra relaxed fit. Her oversized black blazer included thin lapels and a single button for the fastening, with a black roll neck worn underneath. Alana Haim opted for an oversized white shirt worn underneath a black knitted sleeveless V-neck vest. With her shirt worn open collar, both items were tucked into her black trousers with deep front trouser pockets, accessories with the black belt like her sisters. The band were very much in unison with their styling and HAIM really looked effortlessly cool.

Arlo Parks

British singer/songwriter Arlo Parks were not one but two Gucci suits at this year's BRIT awards, as she was nominated for Female Solo Artist, Mastercard  Album with 'Collapsed in Sunbeams' and won Breakthrough Artist on the night. Her first suit was a maroon two-piece suit with a subtle check pattern woven into it. Featured on the jacket itself were wide peak lapels to accentuate the shoulders, three pattern-matched pockets and light brown wooden buttons on the front and cuffs in a 4-button formation. The trousers were a straight cut with a sharp centre crease and worn with an open collar light pink shirt for an extra cool finish. Her second suit was a three-piece floral print suit with a metallic finish thanks to the embellished sequins, including very thin lapels and a wider collar sitting on the relaxed shoulders. The same silhouette on the trousers, the sleeve cuffs were similar to that seen on shirts, as the jacket included a 5-button fastening with embroidered black buttonholes - both entirely different suits which equally looked sharp on Alro Parks at the BRITs.

Taylor Swift

American singer Taylor Swift wore a custom co-ord set comprised of a floor-length skirt and crop top with spaghetti straps from Miu Miu as she accepted the Global Icon Award, awarded to musicians for their strong impact on the music world. Along with being nominated for International Female Solo Artist, the singer's white organza outfit was finished with delicate embellishments arranged in floral patterns to create an even more delicate and elegant outfit. The combination of sequins and crystals also continued on the straps and edges of the top and skirt for extra subtle glamour. It was a stunning and sophisticated outfit for the honoured singer, Taylor Swift.

Yasmin Evans

English radio DJ and presenter Yasmin Evans was in attendance at the BRITs this year as she interviewed multiple celebrities on the red carpet, and looked ever so stylish herself wearing a pink printed off-shoulder dress from the brand DESREE & SABINA LDN. Made with tulle sleeves and the dress from neoprene, it featured an array of pastel and vibrant colours that made up a bold floral design on the garment. The fitted dress included small gathers on the tops of the sleeve as the pink tulle contrasted the dress well with its natural drape into an open cuff. It was a real vibrant and chic outfit worn by Yasmin Evans, perfectly encapsulating the vibrancy of the BRIT awards.

Tallia Storm

British singer Tallia Storm rocked on the red carpet as she wore a black two-piece tuxedo from the brand, Damsel in a Dress. The tuxedo jacket was a single button fastening as slanted flapped pockets sit on the waist. The peak lapels are subtle which highlights her shoulderline elegantly, with the collar finished in a contrast satin, as too are the buttons on the cuffs. The matching tuxedo trousers are a high-waisted design with the classic sharp centre crease emphasising the sleek finish of the all-black tux. As she accessorised with a small clutch embellished with the Scottish flag, Tallia Storm showed why the classic black tuxedo will always be a smart choice for an awards ceremony.

Dua Lipa

A double winner at the awards with her album 'Future Nostalgia' winning Mastercard Album, herself winning Female Solo Artist along with being nominated for British Single with Mastercard with her track 'Physical', British singer Dua Lipa wore rocked a yellow Vivienne Westwood off-shoulder dress. The off-shoulder neckline with its scooped centre was highlighted with the yellow gown folded over and finished with the purple net trim layered across the entire outfit. The bodice was fitted and from the waist featured a floor-length train which added extra drama to the look. As the front of the dress featured an asymmetric hemline, Dua Lipa's outfit was edgy and modern but the well-thought complementary colour combination of yellow and purple worked ever so well indeed.

Rina Sawayama

As she was nominated for BRITs Rising Star, Japanese-British singer Rina Sawayama absolutely delivered on the red carpet, wearing a purple pleated couture BALMAIN gown. The monochrome gown made from organza included a crinoline covered completely in purple ruffles that encased the skirt all the way round in multiple layers, simply adding more shape and texture that always gets a one-colour gown to stand out. From the waist upwards was another purple pleated section as the fabric fanned out around the back to meet at the front centre point, a softer finish to contrast the vast array of ruffles. Smaller ruffles made up the top as included in the gown's design. For the rising star, Rina Sawayama, she certainly rose to the occasion of dressing for the red carpet i a gown full of impact and captivating movement - take a look at the gown's movements yourself below:
