The Tony Awards 2022: Best Dressed Ladies

As always, the glamorous award season continues and this time, it was the turn of the Tony Awards 2022. Recognising the achievements and performances on the iconic Broadway stage, the awards commenced on Sunday (12th June 2022) in New York City, occurring at the Radio City Music Hall in New York. The stars arrived in glitz, glamour and smart attires for the event, and we've spotted some real stand-out pieces from the ladies attending the 75th Annual Tony Awards.

Actress Gabby Beans was nominated for Best Leading Actress in a Play her performance in the play "The Skin of Our Teeth" at this year's Tony Awards and for the event, looked very elegant in a mustard yellow evening Romona Keveza gown, designed with a strapless neckline and long accompanying fabric train worn over the shoulders. The gown's bodice is fitted with the skirt creating the column silhouette to the piece, whilst the cape is fitted nicely across the shoulders with a high neck. It then drapes down and falls behind her to create a long train, softly decorated with fabric covered buttons leading from the top down in the centre.

Also nominated in the same category was actress Ruth Negga for her performance in "Macbeth", as she attended in a glamorous Armani Privé black evening gown. The gown was designed with a plunging V halter neck that straightens off above the waist point. With the bottom of the gown decorated, it gives the illusion of the middle section being a thick waistband. The decoration itself over the skirt is layered, consisting of many jewels split into three wide horizontal sections which are slightly enhanced through the silver necklace she wears.

Wearing a dazzling tailored suit was actress Leslie Bibb, sporting a Pamella Roland design. The jacket features notch lapels and is fastened slightly off-centre with a hidden fastening, so as not to distract from the sequins. It's well-tailored across the shoulders with good structure, whilst the bottom of the jacket features a tall notched hem, outlined by the silver embellished trim that follows through the lapel and collar. The same trim is also included down the sides of her trousers, strengthened through the subtle flare at the hem.

Wearing a soft blush pink Gucci gown to the Tony Awards was actress Jessica Chastain, designed with a subtle fabric drape leading into a train. The neckline is an off-shoulder style, with the bodice fitted and elements of channelling included in the centre. From the waist, soft fabric manipulation is spotted with pleating and natural draping forming the top part of the skirt. The draping almost folds over and leads down to the floor, mirroring the length of the gown which brushes the floor, whilst the extra bit of fabric provides added texture and shape to the one-colour design.

Dominique Morisseau

Playwright and actress Dominique Morisseau stunned in bright green from Sergio Hudson, as her play "Skeleton Crew" was nominated for Best New Play this year. The gown itself was designed with an asymmetric wrap top in shamrock green, made with a tall collar which stood and voluminous bishop sleeves with gathered shoulders delivering extra height. They gathered into the buttoned cuffs, making the sleeves even more dramatic. The skirt was a matte finish, fitted to the knee before flaring out in a soft yet dramatic manner to create fullness at the hem all around. The back of the shamrock green top was tied into a bow, with the ties draping down behind and proving a lovely contrast between the matte and shine finish.

Anna Musky-Goldwyn

Film writer Anna Musky-Goldwyn opted for a tailored look for the event, wearing a double-breasted two-piece cut in a maroon shade. Worn over a black V-neck top, the jacket included four buttons on the front with curved peak lapels finished to a point. The shoulders are soft across the top line to mirror the slightly relaxed shape of the tailored ensemble, whilst the trousers fall straight down to over the shoes. The centre creases on these are prominent, enhancing the sheen of the cloth further for the award event. The flapped pockets sit straight near the bottom of the jacket, whilst an angled welt pocket is situated high on the chest.

In attendance at the awards was actress and singer Patina Miller who for the event, wore a vintage Bill Blass gown with a Grecian neckline. The ivory dress draped gently down to the floor with a tall centre split in the hem, just finishing above the floor for that elegant movement. The neckline gathers from the shoulders down into a central green and gold jewel, with further soft pleating filtering outwards towards the side. With no evident waistline in the construction of the gown, it provides an elongated silhouette to the piece, and looks stunning for this awards.

Kara Young

Nominated in the category Best Featured Actress in a Play for her role in "Clyde's", actress Kara Young brought the glamorous drama to the awards in her Christian Siriano gown. It consisted of a separate top and skirt made from the same glittery orange fabric to create this stunning, statement look. The top itself was longer at the sleeves before curving upwards to a straight hem across the chest, whilst the outer edge was defined by a ruffled fabric panel. The skirt included a tall waistband, either constructed with subtle pleating or gathers for added texture, whilst the skirt really flared out and was full in its shape and length. The gathers from the top of the waistband expanded into large drapes as it then curves inwards at the hem, almost contrasting the structure of the top.

Cynthia Erivo

Actress and producer Cynthia Erivo looked angelic in a Giambattista Valli white gown at this year's Tony Awards, designed with many layers of fabric to create such soft, flowing movements. The bodice was created with a crew neck and softly pleated from the mid point, whilst the same fabric was fitted and wrapped around the centre, with what looks to be boning channels just showing underneath. From the gathered waist down, the fabric draped to soften this ballgown-style skirt, draping gently on the floor. From the shoulders draping down the back was a long cape, which she demonstrated the delicate movements of and on the shoulders, was a fabric hood that sat quite strong when not worn.
