THE BAFTA TV Awards 2021: Best Dressed Ladies - A Hand Tailored Suit

THE BAFTA TV Awards 2021: Best Dressed Ladies

The Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards (also known as the BAFTA TV Awards) took place on Sunday 6th June 2021 at the Television Centre in London, with some celebrities in attendance and others over video as the ceremony still adhered to social distancing guidelines. With the BAFTA film awards occurring two months prior, it was time for the stars of TV to be recognised with nominations and some of the lucky ones to take home a BAFTA award. The red carpet was rolled out, and we at A Hand Tailored Suit have picked out some of favourite looks, starting with some of the best dressed ladies on the evening.

Michaela Coel

Actress Michaela Coel was a double winner at this year's awards winning Leading Actress and Mini-Series for the show, 'I May Destroy You', attending the event in a stunning MAXIMILIAN black floor-length gown. The design was minimal with the contrasting red detail on the end of the sleeves and cut-out panel featured on the back of the gown separated by the T-shaped fabric silhouette down the centre back. Also featuring a slit opening down the centre front, the black gown delivered an extra level of sophistication with a subtle train draping delicately behind her. Styled with a gold chain necklace worn just below the neck, Michaela Coel's outfit certainly delivered a strong impact.

Lydia West

'It's A Sin' actress Lydia West made her BAFTA debut wearing a black and white Loewe gown as she presented one of the awards at this year's ceremony. The long black gown featured a jewel neckline and two white puff sleeves, transforming the simple black dress to a very modern, elegant garment with the off-shoulder design. Below the waist of the gown shows where the fabric has been manipulated to create the illusion of an elongated bodice, as well as the extra pleated section down the centre front, allowing the sheen and natural drape of the fabric to really make itself known - what a debut for Lydia West.

Nicola Coughlan

Star of 'Derry Girls' and 'Bridgerton', Nicola Coughlan was nominated for Must-See Moment in the hit Netflix series as she wore a bright orange midi-length dress from Valentino. The monochromatic dress was designed with a square neckline and a sheer panel to fill in the silhouette and create a folded crew neck at the top of the dress. From the waist of the tailored bodice was a structured panel A-line skirt finished off with a rounded hem just above her ankle. The sleeves are set in at the shoulder with extra height added to the shoulders before flowing down into bishop sleeves in a three-quarter length finish - a must-see dress for the Must-See Moment nominated actress, Nicola Coughlan.

Daisy Edgar-Jones

Nominated for Leading Actress for her role in 'Normal People', actress Daisy Edgar-Jones was looking very cool in a mint green floral patterned two-piece suit from Gucci, worn over a white ruffled lace top and finished with an embellished gold heart underneath the welt pocket. Also below the gold embellishment are three red beaded tear drops as the jacket is also designed with two flapped pockets, a curved front edge and peak lapels. The trousers sit high-waisted on the actress as a slight bootcut design is spotted in the silhouette of the suit finishing just above her ankles. It's a summery retro look and Daisy Edgar-Jones looked great attending the awards over video.

Jodie Comer

Another monochromatic look made an appearance on the red carpet last as actress Jodie Comer wore all navy as she was nominated for Leading Actress for her role in the series, 'Killing Eve'. Wearing Gabriela Hearst, her attire consisted of a navy cami top with a scoop neckline tucked into a pair of matching navy trousers designed with a high waistline. The trousers are a straight leg silhouette, with the hem slightly dragging on the floor as the feature a noticeable sharp centre crease on the front. Belt loops secure the belt with the matching navy belt buckle in place as Comer poses with her hands tucked into the two rounded pockets on the front, whilst the back include two double-jet pockets. Also seen with a navy buttoned shirt to complete the attire, it was a sophisticated smart/casual look for Jodie Comer and perfect for the warm evening too.

AJ Odudu

A red carpet event isn't complete without at least one red gown to match, and TV presenter AJ Odudu delivered it with a red feather gown from TRANHUNG. Interviewing celebrities on the red carpet as they arrived for the evening's events, Odudu's garment was designed with a low scooped back and an asymmetric shouderline. The feathers become more scattered from the top of the garment down with the sheer fabric revealing the floor-length silhouette and the presenter's silver heels. A look full of texture and glamour, AJ Odudu certainly looked modern and classy at the BAFTA TV Awards.

Billie Piper

Actress Billie Piper attended the event wearing a pink and black Moschino dress as she was also nominated for Leading Actress for her role in the show, 'I Hate Suzie'. Her black double-breasted blazer dress featured notch lapels and a 4-button front with a contrasting black sequined panel included. To complete modernise the typical blazer dress, a pink shoulder-length puff sleeve is distinguished on the right side of the outfit, falling diagonally down across the bodice (front and back) to tie into a bow on the waist on the opposite side. With this vibrant pink panel creating a V-neckline, it also creates a dramatic draped side train, balanced out with the structure of the blazer's shoulders. It's modern and it's full of impact as Billie Piper wore it well on the red carpet.

Golda Rosheuvel

Fellow star of 'Bridgerton' Golda Rosheuvel was also in attendance on the red carpet wearing a Simone Rocha layered black tulle dress over a tailored white shirt. Designed with a boat neckline, the puffed sleeves included a ruffled trim on the shoulder, matching the pleated layers at the bottom of the gown. Defining these layers is a repetitive floral embroidery which was styled with a matching beaded neck brooch worn in between the collar. Ankle length to ensure her shoes are noticed too, the black sheer gown works very well over the top of the white shirt, allowing crisp tailored elements such as the patch pocket, the centre button placket and single cuffs to be noticed. As the sharp points of the long collar layer over the gown, Golda Rosheuvel delivered with a fierce and modern ensemble.
